Configuring the openlayers and geofield module in drupal 7

In this tutorial, we will be learning how to configure the openlayers module in drupal 7, We will be using this in combination with the geofield module. This is the third part on our series on learning to work with maps in drupal 7. Openlayers is an open source framework used for  building map applications. It is an alternative to google maps. OpenLayers is a pure JavaScript library for displaying map data without the need of any server-side dependencies. While preparing for this tutorial, I used the most recent version of openlayers(7.x-2.0-beta5)which seemed to produce errors during the use of the module, so I decided to use an earlier release of the openlayers module which was more stable (openlayers 7.x-2.0-beta3)

Hello,

I'm the maintainer of OpenLayers and I saw this link on Twitter.

I would like to react on this sentence:
"While preparing for this tutorial, I used the most recent version of openlayers(7.x-2.0-beta5)which seemed to produce errors during the use of the module, so I decided to use an earlier release of the openlayers module which was more stable (openlayers 7.x-2.0-beta3)"

This is absolutely not true, OpenLayers Beta 5 is far more better in everything. There are still some minimal bugs, true, but they are fixed in the dev version.

OpenLayers Beta 5 had a small change in it's API (regarding projections), but it's for a greater good and module developers needs to update their module.

If I were you I would write an article on how to use the beta5 instead of using past versions, that would also help us having better feedback and improve the next version based on those feedback.

Hello to every one, it's genuinely a nice for me to go to see this site, it consists of helpful Information.

Thanks for the clarification. I actually just found out the issue was with the geofield module rather than openlayers. I will do another tutorial another tutorial on how to use the beta5 as you suggested.

Your tutorials get better and better!
Please talk little bit louder that all thanks again!

Thanks Chalres, I will try talking louder smiley

Hi,
This appears to be your second foray into mapping in Drupal and it's great. But you've picked implementations that have been around for a while. For something fresh and optimized for the mobile world we live in, I'd do a third one about Leaflet, Leaflet MarkerCluster and IP Geolocation Views and Maps. These modules are rapidly gaining momentum as you can tell from the module stats on the project pages.

For anyone interest in maps: attend the panel session at DrupalCon Portland: http://portland2013.drupal.org/session/should-have-made-left-turn-albuqu...

Thanks Rik. I will do a tutorial on how to use the leaflet, leaflet cluster module and IP geolocation views and maps. I had a quick look at it, and it looks pretty cool.

Hi i am interested in implementing a public service monitoring using mobile [hones to report poor services from all over Ghana. Hiow do i combine maps and mobile phones to do that in Drupal?
